Bremerton, Wash. – Todd Tibke of Snohomish, Wash. shot 3-under par 69 to grab the lead after today’s opening round of the 36th Washington Senior Men’s Amateur Championship; while Bruce McKinney of Cheney, Wash. fired an opening round 1-under 71 to lead the 15th Super Senior Men’s Amateur.

Both 54-hole championships are being held this week, September 20-22, at Desert Canyon Golf Resort in Orondo, Wash.
Tibke, who is seeking his first individual state title, carded six birdies and three bogeys en route to today’s low round of the day. He leads by two shots over Nate Hair of Spokane and Gordon Nelson of Gig Harbor.
In the Super Senior, McKinney was the only player in the field to finish under par. He got off to an incredibly hot start, going 4-under through the first 11 holes before cooling off towards the end of the round. McKinney leads be one shot over Jim McNelis of Gig Harbor.
To be eligible, contestants in the Senior Men’s Amateur must be 55 years of age or older by September 20, 2022, while contestants in the Super Senior Men’s Amateur must be age 65 by that same date. All competitors must have an active GHIN number and USGA Handicap Index issued by a WA Golf member club not exceeding 12.4 at the time of entry.
