Hogben aces playoff hole for walk-off victory in 39th Senior Men's Amateur; Jonson takes 18th Super Senior
Paul Hogben
Clarkston, Wash.  - With a 127-yard hole-in-one to walk it off after three playoff holes, Paul Hogben of Seattle completed rounds of 74-72-70 to win the 39 th Washington Senior Men’s Amateur Championship; while Richard Jonson, also of Seattle, shot rounds of 77-73-75 to capture the 18 th  Super Senior Men’s Amateur by one stroke.

Hogben’s final round of 70 was the second lowest of the day, after a steady first two rounds that saw him enter the final day at two-over-par. He birdied three of his first five holes during round 3, but a second nine of only pars allowed Craig Larson to catch and overtake him going into the 18th hole. When Larson bogeyed that last hole of regulation, the two entered their three-hole playoff where Hogben recorded his ace for the victory, using a pitching wedge.   The result marks the first WA Golf title for Hogben, who also won the 59th PNGA Senior Men’s Amateur in September 2024.
Richard Jonson
In the Super Senior, under difficult scoring conditions, Jonson opened with a 5-over-par 77, but rebounded with his second-round 73, the low round of that day. Entering the final round with a one-shot lead, he managed to hang on by carding his 75, with all three of his birdies coming on his second nine holes.   It’s also Jonson’s first WA Golf title, who previously earned co-medalist honors in U.S. Senior Open Qualifying at Inglewood Golf Club in 2016.   To be eligible for the Senior Men’s Amateur, players needed to be 55 years or older by June 4, 2024, while participants in the Super Senior Men’s Amateur had to be at least 65 years old by the same date. All competitors were required to have an active GHIN number and a USGA Handicap Index issued by a WA Golf member club, not exceeding 12.4 at the time of entry.
